A Villager became a Doctor

UIN Online – On Wednesday, (02/26) Drs. H. Muh. Ilham, M.Pd., conducted Doctoral Promotion Exam at Postgraduate Program of Alauddin State Islamic University (UIN Alauddin) Makassar. The man worked daily as a lecturer at Dakwah and Communication Faculty (FDK) defended his dissertation entitled ‘Islam and Local Culture’ (Local Wisdom in Makassar Expression and Its Relevance in Islamic Education).

When confirmed on his promotion exam, he said that he was very happy to be a doctor. "I’m extremely happy, finally, I can attest that a villager can be a doctor," he said.

This event was attended by Vice Dean of FDK, Nur Hidayat M. Said, the Head of Journalism Department, Firdaus Muhammad, lecturers of FDK, staff, and families of ‘promovendus’. It took place in Postgraduate Program building of UIN Alauddin Makassar.

The examiner teams consisted of internal examiners, external examiner, and promoters / co-promoters. The promoters were Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad M. Sewang, MA., Prof. Dr. H. Nasir A. Baki, MA., and Prof. Dr. HA Qadir Gassing HT, MS. While the internal examiners were Prof. Dr. H. Moh. Natsir Mahmud MA., Prof. Dr. Bahaking Rama, MS., Prof. H. Salehuddin, M.Ag., and Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad M. Sewang, MA., and the external examiner was Dr. Mardi Adi Armin, M.Hum.

Ilham said that the study aimed to describe integration processes and forms of Islamic teachings. "From this research, I expect that Makassar language and expressions can be included in local content subjects at all levels of education in the schools for the sake of preventing its extinction as the nation's cultural asset," he expected.
